Education, not advice.
Everything on OptionsAcademy is here to teach you how options work. None of it is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything. Here is exactly what that means.

This site is education, not financial advice
OptionsAcademy is a free school. The courses, strategy guides, handbook, tools, and every other page exist to teach you how options and investing work. They are general education for a general audience. They are not personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security, option, or strategy. We do not know your goals, your income, your account, or your appetite for risk, so we are in no position to tell you what is right for you. Only you, alongside a licensed professional who knows your situation, can decide that.
Options trading carries real risk
Options are powerful, and that cuts both ways. Trading them involves substantial risk and is not suitable for everyone. You can lose money quickly, and with some strategies you can lose more than you put in. Prices move against you, contracts expire worthless, and there are no sure things. Before you trade a single contract, read the industry's official risk document, Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options, published by the Options Clearing Corporation. Your broker is required to provide it, and it is worth your time.
No promises, no predictions
Nothing on this site is a promise of results. The examples, numbers, and scenarios we use are there to illustrate an idea, not to predict what any real trade will do. They are often simplified and may leave out fees, taxes, commissions, and the general messiness of live markets. Past performance, whether real or hypothetical, never guarantees a future outcome. If a lesson shows a trade working out, treat it as a teaching example, not a forecast.
Sal is not your advisor
This site is built by Sal Mutlu, who spent years as a licensed financial advisor. That experience is real, and it is why the teaching holds up. But Sal is no longer licensed and does not provide personalized advice, manage anyone's money, or act as your broker or fiduciary. Reading this site does not create an advisor-client relationship of any kind. For guidance about your own money, please work with a licensed financial professional, broker, or tax advisor. You can read more about who built this and why.
How we keep the lights on
Being upfront: some links on this site point to brokers, tools, or products, and a few of those earn us a commission if you sign up or buy, at no extra cost to you. We also accept voluntary donations, and there may be a few simple ads down the road. None of that changes what we teach. We do not recommend a broker or tool because it pays us. We mention what we believe is genuinely useful, and the commission, where there is one, is a bonus that helps keep the site free.
Other sites we link to
When we link out to a broker, a data provider, a document, or any other third party, we do not control that site and are not responsible for its content, its accuracy, or how it handles your information. A link is not a blanket endorsement of everything on the other end. Once you leave OptionsAcademy, use your own judgment.
We try to get it right, but no guarantees
We work hard to keep everything here accurate and current, but markets, rules, and products change, and mistakes do happen. Because of that, OptionsAcademy is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, that includes any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the site will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that any information on it is complete, current, or reliable. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
The limits of our responsibility
You use OptionsAcademy, and everything on it, at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, OptionsAcademy, Sal Mutlu, and anyone involved in producing this site will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of the site or your reliance on anything in it. That includes, without limitation, any trading or investment losses, lost profits, or any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, even if we had been warned such losses were possible. Every financial decision you make, and every trade you place, is yours alone, and you accept full responsibility for the outcome.
The bottom line
Use OptionsAcademy to learn. Take that knowledge, do your own research, and make your own decisions, ideally with a licensed professional in your corner. What you do with what you learn here is your responsibility, and any trades you place are at your own risk.
