About Sal Contact

The CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange) is the primary marketplace where options are traded in the United States. It's where your broker routes your option orders.

What Is It

A securities exchange dedicated to options trading. Just like stocks trade on NYSE or NASDAQ, options trade on CBOE and other exchanges.

Size and Importance

The CBOE handles billions of options contracts annually. It's the largest and most liquid options market globally.

What It Does

Impact on Your Trading

You don't trade on CBOE directly. Your broker connects you to it. When you place an order:

  1. Your broker routes it to CBOE
  2. CBOE matches it with sellers/buyers
  3. Trade executes
  4. CBOE clears and settles it

VIX

CBOE publishes the VIX, the "fear index" that measures market volatility. VIX spikes on market panic, falls when markets are calm.

Trading Hours

CBOE options trade 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
